Ketamine Treatment (IV, IM, and Inhaler)

Ketamine is an anesthetic medication that blocks NMDA receptors in the brain and has been shown in multiple clinical trials to effectively treat major depression and resolve suicidality at rates faster than other medications. Ketamine can be administered intravenously (IV), intramuscularly (IM), or intranasally, brand name Spravato, via an inhaler. Phoenix Mental Health offers ALL forms of ketamine (IV, IM, and Inhaler) for our patients using evidence based protocols. We feel that depression treatment should be left to depression experts, which is why our psychiatrists will perform your ketamine infusions themselves. Consultation appointments are available with a Phoenix Mental Health physician if you are interested and would like to learn more.

Deep TMS Treatment

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive, cutting edge, and evidence based procedure used to treat major depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder in patients that have not improved with other treatment modalities, such as antidepressant medications and/or psychotherapy. Phoenix Mental Health is the only clinic in San Antonio that is offering Deep TMS by Brainsway. Deep TMS is the newest in TMS technology and was shown to be more effective than regular TMS in a head-to-head clinical study. Consultation appointments are available with a Phoenix Mental Health physician if you are interested and would like to learn more!

“Depression Treatment by Depression Experts”

—Dr. Johnston

Dr. Johnston founded Phoenix Mental Health to bring new, innovative, evidence-based treatments for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) to the people of San Antonio and beyond. Phoenix Mental Health is the first clinical site in San Antonio to offer Deep Brain Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), while also offering IV Ketamine and Intranasal Ketamine (Spravato); all for the treatment of MDD. Our team works hard to provide these treatments in a comfortable, caring, and empathic atmosphere to ensure that your experience is a positive one.

In the News

Sometimes, it’s hard not to take things personally. As someone who struggled with anxiety, Dr. Johnston knows firsthand the difficulties many patients deal with. The issue of mental health is a very personal and private battle. The notion that our brain is “broken” throws so much into question. Nervously asking ourselves in our most quiet and private place;

“If this part of my brain isn’t working, what else in my brain isn’t working?”

Dr. Nathan Johnston, fighting mental illness head on.
